Interfaces, added agency participation, the impact of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1), and CAD-to-CAD integration are features that all comprise the new directions that are affecting the CAD solution every PSAP owns and uses. While the technology continues to advance and improve, perhaps the biggest CAD changes are associated with how the product is purchased, implemented, and used by agencies.

Today CAD is more of a commodity than it used to be, says Chris Maloney, CEO of CAD vendor TriTech Software Systems in San Diego. From a research development and innovation perspective, no single vendor is creating an allencompassing product that incorporates the needs of all public safety agencies.
