Central County Emergency 911 Improves Emergency Response with New Emergency Communications System
Operations Successfully Go Live on New Computer-Aided Dispatch and Mobile Data Solution
February 26, 2009 – Central County Emergency 911 (CCE911) has successfully gone live on its VisiCAD CommandTM computer-aided dispatch and VisiNet MobileTM data solutions. Developed by TriTech Software Systems,
VisiCAD Command and
VisiNet Mobile provide CCE911 with a state-of-the art command and control system enhancing the operational environment of its communication center and improving communications to field personnel. CCE911 is one of the largest dispatch centers in St. Louis County, Missouri, managing fire and EMS dispatch for seven agencies to service over 500,000 residents.
“The go live process went very smoothly, and the system is performing very well in a manner as expected,” says CCE911 Executive Director Michael Turner. “Our team of dispatchers and IT personnel worked alongside with our TriTech Project Team to ensure a seamless transition. Many of the features in the new system, such as the integrated mapping and AVL, are greatly benefitting our staff and we are already seeing calls dispatched faster. Our staff have been extremely prepared, trained and very excited to be working on the new system.”
The new computer-aided dispatch system offers many improvements over CCE911’s previous system which was over 20 years old. Dispatchers now benefit from integrated mapping which provides a quick visual representation of the location of incidents, units, hazards, premise locations and hydrants. Additionally, CCE911 vehicles now utilize a mobile data solution equipped with an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) interface to improve communications between dispatch and the field and provide dispatchers with accurate status and location updates of their units. The integrated mapping and AVL combine to provide CCE911 dispatchers’ recommendations for units which are truly the closest unit for incident response.
In an effort toward interoperability and enhancing regional emergency communications, future planning and consideration includes implementing a CAD-to-CAD interface between CCE911 and neighboring St. Louis Fire/EMS who also utilize VisiCAD Command. The CAD-to-CAD interface links the disparate computer-aided dispatch systems allowing for the seamless transfer of caller and incident information as well as electronic messaging between the two communication centers. The interface will ensure that any calls requiring services can be shared in real-time for improved mutual aid and joint response between CCE911 and St. Louis Fire/EMS.
“The successful implementation of VisiCAD Command and VisiNet Mobile at CCE911 is a strong testament to the diligence of the project teams – the client and our own,” says TriTech President and CEO Chris Maloney. “The transition from a legacy system is daunting, however our project team work closely alongside our clients to ensure a seamless transition. Through extensive training and rigorous testing of our systems, the project team is continuously making adjustments to ensure high system performance and fully optimizing the workflow for dispatch personnel. We look forward to the continued working relationship with CCE911 as we work together to support their operations and goals for interoperability.”
